Solidarity Hogares Shorewood is a group of Shorewood High School students who have been visiting the Hogar Santa Maria de Guadalupe orphanage for a number of years. The Hogar, as it is fondly known, is a home for children or orphans coming from families that are too poor to support them or homes of abuse and neglect. There are 81 children at the Hogar, ranging in age from a few weeks to 18.
We Shorewood students formed Solidarity Hogares Shorewood to raise money for the Hogar in between trips after falling in love with the children we met there.The money we have raised (over $3500 last year) has gone to paying the base costs of education, food and clothes for the children, but this year we are hoping to pay for a generator for the orphanage. Because electricity is very spotty and because rainstorms are prevalent in the mountain region where the Hogar is located, they really need this equipment in order to run smoothly.
Solidarity Hogares Shorewood's biggest fundraiser thus far will be Generating Hope, held on October 24th at Shorewood’s Hubbard
Park Lodge, to fundraise for the generator. We invite you to this event, which includes a banquet dinner and a silent auction
to raise as much money as possible for the generator. At the event, there will be a short presentation about our relationship to the orphanage as well as a skype conversation with some of the kids (depending on the shaky internet connection at the Hogar)!
We hope you will attend the event, in which case tickets are available on the link. You may decide between a meat (chicken) or vegetarian (pasta) entree and salad, desert, and drinks will be included. SHS was started by a group of high schoolers from Shorewood High School after
